Lowton High School
Mrs Karen Hindley
Student Support Manager
Lowton High School
As a school every student is now aware of what counselling is and how to access Kooth.
As face to face counselling services are becoming a rarity or too expensive for schools to buy into, Kooth has bridged the gap of an information resource for young people with the availability to access counselling advice in a modern format. Students have been able to use this site with ease and seek out information in relation to a host of "emotional issues".
The resources that are available have also helped with giving instant advice to students facing emotional concerns for example - divorce, family illness, bereavement, 10 tips to feel good and self esteem.
In some cases I have referred to face to face counselling and as the waiting list is 6-8weeks I have been able to get students to use Kooth counselling first.
As a school we have rolled out the Kooth website in various formats:
  • Year group assemblies - rolled to give information to whole school
  • Form tutor periods to coincide with Anti-bullying weeks
  • Year 7 Transition assemblies
  • Year 11 pre-exam stress management assemblies
  • PSHE day
  • School student bereavement support
  • Staff training
  • One to one mentoring of students with emotional concerns
Representatives from Kooth have been available to lead on assemblies and PSHE days as well as offer additional support if and when needed.

Senior Partnership manager
Powys
Powys Children and Young people's Partnership has commissioned Xenzone to provide an online counselling service for 11 to 25 year olds for the past two years.
As a provider we have found them responsive, flexible, principled and ethical which makes the task of commissioning very easy and with out some of the tensions that can exist between commissioner and provider. They are also very knowledgeable about their area of specialism i.e. mental health and the needs of young people including their means of communication.
They are open to suggestions and ideas for development and have responded very quickly to implementing changes when required. Because of the unique nature of their business it has been hard to define the value for money element in an open market but what we have been able to do is work hard on measuring the outcomes for children and young people, and this is beginning to emerge with very positive results.
Feedback from schools and other client groups has been positive in respect of the service, and the data we receive is invaluable for our needs assessment process and helps us target work both thematically and geographically.
Their quarterly reports arrive promptly and always include the data that has been requested. Our only disappointment is that they do not provide more services for us because if the standard was as good as Kooth then I am sure we would snap them up.

Cheshire Local Authority Children's Services relationship with Xenzone and its delivery of Kooth has been an extremely positive one. The company directors Elaine and Steve have been an exciting team to work with. They are clearly very committed to improving support services and outcomes for young people. One of their key strengths has been that they are not simply an innovative and capable information technology provider but are also a passionate social enterprise with great deal of experience working with complex and vulnerable young people.
Xenzone have continually strived to develop to improve its functionality and appeal to young people, whilst balancing its usability for professionals also.

The success of Kooth has been astounding. After receiving the initial funding in 2003 the service has gone from strength to strength. Making young peoples' lives better is the main aim of the service, but to save money and take the strain away from other important services is the icing on the cake.
